A new, untested challenge is upon us as we will be returning to campus with back to class, in-person learning this fall semester. I last left campus on March 6th of 2020, and next Tuesday we will once again convene on campus.
Migrating from in person instruction to synchronous instruction on Zoom with two weeks notice in the spring semester of 2020 was certainly an adjustment. However, given the alternatives, migrating to Zoom was a ideal alternative. In my experience, online synchronous instruction can be highly effective.
This semester may prove to be a more interesting teaching experience than the past 2 semesters on Zoom. Fortunately, Columbia College Chicago has, and is following science; requiring vaccination IDs, (or regular COVID tests), with a mandated face covering throughout campus. All of us; staff, employees and students have previously uploaded a government mandated Covid vaccination ID and, and we will be wearing masks while in class and on campus.
This too, will prove to be an interesting semester.
