The annual Gerey Johnson Birthday Party lit up the night on Saturday, July 19th at The Venue at the Loews Hotel in Rosemont, IL. Packed with talent, groove, and Gerey’s signature blend of biting wit and charm, the evening was a true celebration of music and community.
The stage featured a stellar lineup: powerhouse guest vocalist Rebecca Jade brought the soul, and Grammy-winning saxophonist Eric Marienthal added his signature inimitable style and sound on alto saxophone. Backing it all was a supremely tight and funky band anchored by Andrew Henry on keys, with comping and solo bursts that had the crowd engaged.
The highlight was, of course, Gerey himself — delivering solos with finesse and letting his guitar do the talking. His between-song banter, as always, was in true Gerey form: dry, self-effacing, and effortlessly funny. It’s not just about the music with Gerey — it’s about the whole vibe, and once again, he nailed it.
