We didn't just learn the music business.

We wrote the book on it.

C Sharp Consulting LLC is a boutique artist management firm serving independent artists who are serious about building sustainable careers. Founded in 2005. Built on decades of real experience.

Our Story

What began as a consulting practice evolved naturally — shaped by real-world experience in the classroom, in the studio, in rehearsals, or on the stage, and inside the music industry itself. Kent Anderson began instructing music business courses at Columbia College Chicago, and something became apparent: aspiring artists lacked the knowledge of how the industry actually works. The lack of curriculum led a major publisher to inquire, and It’s All About The Music Marketing Stupid was born.

The book is packed with practical marketing strategies and real-world tools you can put to work right now to turn creativity into traction, how to claim every dollar you’re owed — from copyright registrations to streaming royalties.

Today, C Sharp Consulting is a boutique artist management and consulting firm serving independent artists who are serious about building sustainable careers. We don’t do cookie-cutter deals. We bring decades of real experience — as executives, educators, musicians, and marketers — to every artist relationship.

In 2026, remain focused on one simple premise: artists deserve better business, marketing, and branding guidance.

"We know this business from the inside out. And we work exclusively with artists who are ready to do the same."

The Team

Three operators. Decades of receipts.

KA

Kent Anderson

Founder & Principal · Music Executive · Author · Adjunct Professor, Columbia College Chicago

Kent Anderson is one of those rare figures who has lived the music business from every angle simultaneously. A classically trained bassist with a degree in Performance, he has played everything from big bands and orchestras to rock, jazz fusion, and Broadway pit orchestras for national touring companies.

He built a parallel career as a record executive, producer, and music marketing consultant — then codified everything he learned into It’s All About The Music Marketing Stupid, now in its second edition and considered essential reading for independent artists navigating today’s music business.

As an Adjunct Professor of Instruction at Columbia College Chicago, Kent has spent years helping the next generation of music professionals understand how the industry really works. That same no-nonsense, experience-first philosophy drives everything at C Sharp Consulting.

When you work with Kent, you’re not getting a theorist. You’re getting someone who has been in the room — the boardroom, the studio, the classroom, and the bandstand.

Additionally, he fronts his contemporary jazz group, the Kent Anderson Collective.

GJ

Gerey Johnson

Partner · Music Director · Guitarist · Production Manager

Gerey Johnson’s path to the music industry is unlike anyone else’s — and that’s exactly what makes him invaluable.

Raised on Chicago’s South Side surrounded by jazz and R&B, Gerey began first on drums and keyboards before finding his voice on guitar. After earning his degree at Northwestern University, he rose to Assistant Vice President in investment banking before a pivotal personal moment changed everything. He walked away from finance and never looked back.

What followed was a career spanning nearly every corner of the music business: leading his fusion band Cool World, booking national acts for Chicago venues, becoming a minority partner in a club, serving as studio manager and A&R representative, and ultimately touring nationally as Music Director for contemporary jazz artists.

What sets Gerey apart isn’t the breadth of the résumé. It’s the way every chapter informs the next.

AC

Andres Correa

Booking Agent & Digital Outreach Coordinator

Andres Correa represents the next generation of music business professionals — and he’s already doing the work that most people his age are still reading about in textbooks.

A graduate of Columbia College Chicago, Andres has built his expertise through high-impact experience at some of the most respected organizations in the industry. From indie artist services at Thirty Tigers to representing a brand on the SXSW floor for Musicbed, to a remote residency with TwoOHsix Music in Los Angeles, he has accumulated hands-on experience that few at his stage of career can match.

At C Sharp, Andres serves at the intersection of live performance and digital presence — supporting artists through playlist pitching, blogger outreach, influencer submissions, and booking coordination.

From Nashville to Fort Worth to Los Angeles, Andres brings a global perspective, a detail-oriented approach, and a genuine passion for helping independent artists break through.
